Punch Quest is a retro-style endless arcade horizontal runner. The main goal in the game is the same as in all other games of this genre – to go as far as possible. Along the way, you will have to destroy as many enemy monsters as possible and collect coins, for which you can then purchase an upgrade.
The main character is controlled by tapping the screen. Pressing on the left side of the screen strikes enemies from below (uppercut), and on the right side of the screen, strikes forward. As the game progresses, the player receives special attacks that can be purchased with coins. Each special attack is unique and can be replaced with others in the settings. Also in the game, you can change the appearance of the main character and purchase an improvement.
At first it may seem that this game is quite primitive – destroy the enemies and do not let yourself be destroyed, but as you start to get involved, it turns out that everything is not so simple. To achieve high results, you should carefully select skills and improvements, as well as carefully monitor what is happening on the screen. If you just randomly poke your fingers around the screen, you won’t get far.
Despite the limitation of the genre, the gameplay of Punch Quest is quite diverse. Along the way, you can ride a dinosaur that emits deadly laser beams from its mouth, turn into a crazy unicorn or a fireball.
Separately, it should be noted the graphics and sound of the game. They are fully consistent with the genre of the good old arcade games. The oversized protagonist with big fists, caricature monsters, dilapidated gloomy but at the same time cute locations – all this makes you remember games for 8-bit consoles. Not far behind this is the music from the sounds of which the heart of an old-school gamer will melt.
Punch Quest is a very fun game and is a true benchmark of the genre. Not only does it offer something new, but it does so in a very entertaining way and with beautifully realized graphics and music in the style of 80s arcade games, where both characters and scenarios were developed with great diligence.
